Expressions of Interest – Board Members
Could you bring your skills, experience and perspective to the Valley Sport Board?
Valley Sport is seeking expressions of interest from passionate, community-minded people who want to make a positive contribution to sport and active recreation across the Goulburn Valley region.
As a Regional Sports Assembly, Valley Sport works across seven Local Government Areas – Benalla, Greater Shepparton, Mansfield, Mitchell, Moira, Murrindindi and Strathbogie – supporting sporting clubs, volunteers and communities to become stronger, more sustainable and inclusive.
Guided by our vision of Better lives through sport – Mountains to the Murray, our Board plays an important role in ensuring Valley Sport continues to respond to the needs of our communities and create meaningful opportunities through sport and recreation.
About the Opportunity
Joining the Valley Sport Board is an opportunity to use your professional experience, knowledge and networks to make a genuine contribution to community sport across our region.
Working alongside fellow Board members and Valley Sport’s Executive Officer, you will help provide strategic leadership, sound governance and oversight of the organisation while supporting the delivery of our 2026–2029 Strategic Plan.
Our strategic direction is centred around three key pillars:
- Capability – with Clubs
Supporting strong, sustainable and well-governed sporting clubs and volunteers. - Connection – with Community
Creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities to participate, belong and connect through sport. - Collaboration – with Partners
Working alongside government, sporting organisations and community partners to achieve greater impact across our region.
What Does the Role Involve?
As a Valley Sport Board member, you will contribute to the governance and strategic direction of the organisation rather than its day-to-day operations.
The role will involve:
- Participating in scheduled Board meetings and contributing to informed discussion and decision-making.
- Helping guide Valley Sport’s strategic direction and monitoring progress against organisational priorities.
- Providing governance oversight, including consideration of financial performance, organisational risk and compliance.
- Contributing your individual skills, experience and perspective to Board discussions.
- Supporting strong relationships with government, sporting organisations, community partners and other key stakeholders.
- Acting as an ambassador for Valley Sport and championing the organisation’s purpose and impact throughout the region.
- Contributing to Board committees, working groups or strategic projects where appropriate.
- Supporting good governance, succession planning and the long-term sustainability of the organisation.
- Attending key Valley Sport events or activities where appropriate.
Board members work collectively to provide leadership and oversight while supporting the Executive Officer and staff to deliver Valley Sport’s strategic objectives.
