About the Role
Valley Sport (VS) is on the lookout for an experienced and visionary Executive Officer (EO) to lead our organisation into its next phase of growth and sustainability. As the EO, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial and operational performance of Valley Sport, ensuring our activities align with the strategic direction set by our Board of Directors. Your role will be pivotal in setting and achieving ambitious goals for the long-term sustainability of Valley Sport while fostering a high-performing, engaged culture with our communities and funding partners.
Position Overview

- Employment Type: Full Time, Ongoing
- Location: Shepparton Office, Goulburn Valley Region
- Salary Package: Competitive, including company vehicle, plus superannuation (negotiable based on experience)
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Management:
- Provide visionary leadership to guide Valley Sport’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with our mission to build healthy, active, and connected communities.
- Be a leading figure in the Goulburn Valley region, actively monitoring government policies and innovations, and being responsive to emerging community needs.
- Mobilise community capacity and leverage data trends to inform strategies, plans, and funding submissions, ensuring Valley Sport remains adaptive and forward-thinking.
Communication, Marketing, and Branding:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to enhance Valley Sport’s profile and reputation across the region.
- Design and execute marketing and branding campaigns that effectively promote Valley Sport’s initiatives and achievements, leveraging modern digital tools and social media.
- Build and strengthen Valley Sport’s brand presence to maximise community engagement and participation in sport and recreation.
Advocacy and Representation:
- Act as a key advocate for regional sport and recreation, representing Valley Sport in engagements with government bodies and other stakeholders.
- Analyse data and trends to support evidence-based advocacy, influencing policy and resource allocation to benefit our region.
- Represent Valley Sport at sector forums, conferences, and community events to build relationships and advance our objectives.
Partnerships and Collaboration:
- Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships with community groups, government bodies, and businesses to enhance funding and investment opportunities.
- Engage in network activities, including project control groups and advisory committees, to foster collaboration and drive strategic outcomes.
Capacity Building and Development:
- Oversee staff development and training to build organisational capacity and ensure high performance.
- Implement policies and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness and governance.
Enterprise Development and Risk Management:
- Develop and manage organisational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and effective risk management.
- Prepare and manage financial budgets and reports, safeguarding Valley Sport’s financial sustainability.
What You Bring
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader with:
- Extensive experience and a proven track record in a senior management role, ideally within a not-for-profit organisation.
- A deep understanding of state and federal funding landscapes, with the ability to navigate and leverage these effectively.
- Strong ethical leadership, characterised by integrity, transparency, and accountability.
- Strategic thinking abilities, with experience in driving innovation and fostering continuous improvement.
- Robust financial management skills, including budget development and revenue stream identification.
- Proficiency in modern communication and engagement strategies, with a demonstrated ability to enhance branding and advocacy efforts.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with stakeholders, including community groups, government bodies, and businesses.
The successful candidate will either already reside within the Goulburn Valley region or be prepared to relocate to the Victorian Goulburn Valley region, integrating fully into the local community and addressing local issues effectively.
