Valley Sport is proud to launch our inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.

Our RAP marks an important step in our commitment to reconciliation, inclusion and creating culturally safe sport and recreation environments across the Mountains to the Murray region.

Through this plan, we are committed to listening, learning and building respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations. We recognise the important role sport can play in bringing people together, strengthening connection and creating opportunities for everyone to feel valued, respected and included.

Valley Sport’s vision for reconciliation is a Goulburn Valley where sport acts as a bridge to unity.

We want to see Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples celebrated as the Traditional Custodians of the land, with their cultures recognised and respected across local sport and recreation. We also want to support more equitable access to the health, social and leadership benefits that sport can provide.

This Reflect RAP provides a clear framework to guide our actions from September 2026 to February 2028. It will help us strengthen partnerships, build cultural understanding, support local clubs and embed reconciliation across our organisation.

Our Reflect RAP includes actions across four key areas:

Relationships
Building meaningful and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, organisations, Traditional Owner groups, clubs, councils and community partners.

Respect
Increasing our understanding and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, knowledge and rights, including cultural learning and protocols.

Opportunities
Exploring ways to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation, leadership, employment and supplier engagement within sport and recreation.

Governance
Creating the structures, accountability and reporting needed to support long-term reconciliation action across Valley Sport.

“Our Reflect RAP marks the beginning of an important journey for Valley Sport. We are committed to listening, learning and building respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations across our region.

Sport has an incredible ability to bring people together, create connection and improve wellbeing. Through this RAP, we want to ensure that sport and recreation environments across our region are welcoming, culturally safe and empowering for First Nations peoples.”
