Valley Sport is proudly teaming up with Intereach & The Boosting The Local Care Workforce Program to provide a first for residents and sporting clubs in the GV – a workshop specifically for exploring the link between the NDIS & Sport – from the perspective of both individuals in the system/looking to use the system and sporting clubs.

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is a brand new financial support system for persons with a disability, allowing them to lead more independent lives and achieve personal goals that they may not have been able to previously due to financial restraints and lack of opportunity in the community. But this is now all changing, as this new system puts all of the power back into the hands of the disabled community, allowing them to choose how they spend their funding – including things such as employment skills training, life skill development, and day-to-day activities and social endeavours, including sport and recreation opportunities.

This workshop will aim to address key areas of both the NDIS & Sport in the following areas:

Individuals/Families: Learn about how to include sporting activities in your NDIS Plan, why including sport & rec in plans is important to overall health and wellbeing and hear about what opportunities are available locally for you to participate in.

Sporting Clubs: Understand why being involved in the NDIS is beneficial for your club with regards to participation, membership, financial support, sponsorship & employment and how to get started. Hear from established club programs about best practice and how they created opportunities.

Day Service Providers/Carers: Learn more about how to support people in your system or care to use the NDIS to get more active, social and achieving personal goals.

Employment: Why the sport & recreation industry can be a great platform for paid and voluntary work for both individuals and clubs, as well as what support mechanisms are available to assist with this.

This FREE workshop is taking place on Tuesday May 14 at the Shepparton Sports Stadium from 6:30pm – 8:30pm and light refreshments will be provided. The evening will provide the opportunity to hear from some leading figures in the industry and connect with both NDIS experts, as well as clubs/organisations that already have established inclusive programs/employees in their system, sharing some insights into how they have gone about setting this up.
