Call for Board Nominations

Valley Sport invites expressions of interest for nomination to its Board of Directors, we currently have two casual vacancies which we are seeking to fill. Serving the Goulburn Valley Region, Valley Sport is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing community health and wellbeing through sports development and health promotion programs.

About Us

Valley Sport represents its members, stakeholders, and the broader Goulburn Valley sporting community. Our vision is to foster active local communities through initiatives promoting Healthy Clubs, Healthy People. Over the past 5 years, Valley Sport has expanded its programs, emphasizing inclusivity, sustainability, and innovative support for sport and recreation and looks to continue this growth over the coming period.

Current Strategic Focus Areas

1.  CONTINUE TO DELIVER WHAT WE DO
•  Work with our funders to participate in and implement programs and funding streams current and emerging for our community and the Sport and Recreation Community
•  Continue to support of the Sport and Recreation community and build the capacity of stakeholders.
•  Renew & build our organisational focus, capacity, and board for the future. 
•  Our organisational Focus (above) will inform our decision plans and actions.

2.  BUILD OUR LONG-TERM CAPACITY
•  Invest in our community profile and presence.
•  Invest in long term assets, including exploring where we are headquartered.
•  Orientate our HR practises and policies to creating a funnel of developing staff and “sending them out” (reflecting our history of staff coming through Valley sport for a season) where they continue to influence the sector and community.
•  Build the skills, membership, diversity, and community participation in the Board through renewal of the membership and capacity building.

3.  SUPPORT SPORT & RECREATION TO ENGAGE WITH COMMUNITY
Increase the capacity of Sport and Recreation groups to:
•  Navigate the changes in volunteers and the nature of volunteering.
•  Increase accessibility and diversity of participation in Sport and Recreation
•  Identify and support the use and growth of pathways for lifelong participation for all members of the community. 
Building the capacity of clubs and groups to have outstanding administration, best practices governance and access and utilize technology to engage the community, particularly through social media.

4.  INVITE AND ENGAGE COMMUNITY IN SPORT AND RECREATION
•  We are intent on supporting the establishment of a high-profile Sports Academy for the region to raise the profile and opportunities for elite sporting success.
•  We will activate and promote messages to the sector and to the community around inclusivity and participation.
•  Support the capacity-building and diversification of boards and committees.

 

5.  CATALYSE THE SPORT AND RECREATION COMMUNITY TO ” PLAY BETTER TOGETHER”
Our ambition is to be the “connector of choice” across the region by initiating a process to Connect Sport and recreation stakeholders across the region:
•  Map the strategic environment at Federal, State and the local level.
•  Catalyse stakeholders to engage across and around traditional divides.
•  Develop shared strategy for collaboration and participation.

Board Member Responsibilities

We seek individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills who can contribute to our strategic goals:
– Strategic thinkers with experience in government, commercial operations, or the sport industry.
– Knowledgeable in community sport, recreation, health promotion, community development, or inclusion and disability.
– Practitioners of best practice governance principles.
– Creative thinkers enthusiastic about advancing our mission.

Valley Sport Board Casual Vacancy Nomination

Interested candidates should review the Board Member Role Description and Code of Conduct, then complete the online Nomination Form and submit prior to 11.59pm Wednesday 31st July 2024.

The Nominations Committee will review nominations, possibly conducting interviews, and prepare a report for voting members. All nominees will receive notification of the outcome.

Board members serve a 2-year term. Candidates should be prepared to commit to this timeframe.

**Please note this is currently to fill 2 casual vacancies on the board and so would successful candidates will join the board prior to the next AGM scheduled for late November 2024.**
