Valley Sport has assisted in the establishment of All Abilities sporting teams and events which provide an opportunity for people with a disability to participate in organised sport. Valley Sport are proud to have played a major role in the formation of the Goulburn Valley Stars All Abilities Football team, the Mooroopna All Abilities Football and Netball Carnival, the Harmony Cup All Abilities Cricket Competition and many other organised sporting opportunities for people with a physical or intellectual disability.
On top of organised events, Valley Sport also works closely with sporting clubs and organisations, as well as disability day service providers and special development schools to help further sustainable local opportunities for persons with a disability to participate in sport and recreation. This includes actions such as upskilling and education for clubs, the promotion of specific resources and platforms for sharing local inclusive opportunities, as well as general advocacy around ensuring a fair go for the disabled community when it comes to physical activity.
Finding new and innovative ways to increase and promote inclusive participation are a key element of the work that Valley Sport do in the All Abilities space, and we are continually looking to further partnerships with external organisations who share our view of sport being accessible to all, regardless of ability. This involves our active involvement in local disability network meetings, as well as supporting and trialling projects and programs that seek to break down barriers that may exist to inclusive participation in sport across the Goulburn Valley.
