Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) understands the current floods may have had a significant impact on community and not-for-profit organisations in affected areas.

We acknowledge what a challenging time this is, and hope you are staying safe and well.

If you are concerned about your organisation’s ability to hold its annual general meeting (AGM) or lodge its annual statement with CAV in time, you can apply for a free extension for a period of up to three months.

If you would like an extension, please follow the process below.

Extension to hold an AGM or lodge annual statement:

BEFORE the due date of your annual statement, please send an email to cav.registration@justice.vic.gov.au with:

  1. Your organisation’s name and registration number
  2. Details as to whether you are seeking an extension to hold an AGM and lodge your annual statement or just an extension to lodge your annual statement
  3. A future lodgement date, not beyond three months of your annual statement due date.

Please note that you are required to hold an AGM within five months of the organisation’s end of financial year, and annual statements must be submitted within one month of your AGM. You can also login to your myCAV account to check when your annual statement is due.

CAV will respond, confirming the new date for submission.

Once you have made your request and received an approval email, the myCAV system will generate reminder emails, leading up to your new annual statement due date.

More information

If your organisation still decides to hold its scheduled meeting, you can choose to do so through other channels to support people impacted by flooding who may not be able to attend in person. This includes using:

  • teleconference, videoconference, or other means of electronic communication
  • proxy voting.

If you have already held your AGM for 2022 and submitted your annual statement with CAV, then please ignore this email.
